Finding Purpose in His Presence: How to Experience God’s Splendour and Majesty Every Day

March 28, 20254 min read

Yesterday, I hosted a vision board workshop with women from our church—women in seasons of empty nests, career shifts, and quiet longing. Their excitement was contagious. The question that was asked the most?

“How do I know that this thing I'm doing, is in alignment with God's purpose?”

I’ve asked that same question a thousand times. Especially in seasons where it feels like you're not hearing anything from God. It was a journey of almost 2 years I went through. 2 Years might seem long, but it was, and still is, and amazing transformative journey.

For God to speak and direct us, we need He's presence, right?  Especially when life feels chaotic or stagnant, His presence can seem just out of reach—like a song playing in another room. We pray, we wait, we strain to hear Him. But Scripture flips the script: “Splendor and majesty are before Him; strength and joy are in His place” (1 Chronicles 16:27).

The light isn’t missing—we’re just standing inside with the blinds shut.

This isn’t about hustling to find purpose or begging God to step into our mess. It’s about realizing He’s already here, in a space of unshakable glory, inviting us to step into His presence. To trade our anxiety for His awe. Our striving for His strength.

That vision board exercise? It wasn’t about pasting answers to the future. It was a reminder: our deepest purpose isn’t something we build. It’s Someone we dwell with.

Let’s open the blinds and explore how to step into His presence in a way that renews our purpose and rewires our hearts (and mind).

Why We Miss the Moment (Even When God Is Right There)

Imagine sitting across from your best friend, you partner or spouse, but scrolling through your phone the whole time. You’re in their presence, but you’re not experiencing it. Our relationship with God can feel that way too. Here’s why:

We’re Overstimulated
Between work, family, and the ding of notifications, our brains are on overload. God often speaks in a “still small voice” (1 Kings 19:12), but if we’re frazzled and distracted, we miss it.

We Confuse “Feeling” with Faith
We expect God’s presence to feel like a spiritual fireworks show. But sometimes, His majesty shows up as a quiet nudge, a Scripture that sticks, or a peace that doesn’t make sense.

We’ve Forgotten We’re Royalty
You are a daughter of the King—clothed in His dignity and purpose (1 Peter 2:9). But when life feels mundane, it’s easy to forget we’re called to reflect His splendour in ordinary moments.

How to Step Into His Presence (and Stay There)

God’s splendour (His radiant beauty) and majesty (His regal authority) aren’t just for mountaintop moments. They’re meant to infuse our daily lives with meaning. Here’s how to tune in:

1. Start Small: Create “Soul Anchors”

  • Morning Gratitude: Before checking your phone, name one thing you’re thankful for. Gratitude shifts your brain from stress to worship.

  • Breath Prayers: Pair a simple phrase like “Jesus, I need You” with your breath. It’s neuroscience meets faith—calming your amygdala while inviting God’s peace.

2. Redefine “Quiet Time”

Forget the pressure to pray for an hour. Try:

  • Scripture "Shorts": Write a verse on a sticky note (“The Lord is my Shepherd” – Psalm 23:1) and revisit it while waiting in line or stirring coffee.

  • Worship Walks: Put on a worship playlist and stroll your neighborhood. Nature declares God’s glory (Psalm 19:1), and movement boosts clarity. Something magically happens when you are out in nature, in the midst of something God created.

3. Explore Your Purpose as a Reflector

You were made to mirror God’s splendour—not through perfection, but through surrender. Think of Moses, whose face glowed after being with God (Exodus 34:29). Your purpose isn’t about doing more; it’s about abiding in Him so others see His light in your:

  • Listening ear during a friend’s crisis.

  • Joyful resilience in life’s messy seasons.

  • Quiet faithfulness in serving your family or community.

4. Rest Your Nervous System

Science tells us stress hijacks our ability to connect spiritually. Try:

  • Communion Moments: Light a candle, sip tea, and sit in silence for 5 minutes. Let your soul catch up with your body.

  • Community Detox: Swap one social media scroll for a phone call with a faith-filled friend. We’re wired to experience God together!

Your Purpose Is Closer Than You Think

Sweet sister, God’s presence isn’t a destination—it’s an invitation to walk with Him in the everyday. Those “ordinary” moments? They’re where He shapes your purpose:

  • In the laundry room: Praying for your kids as you fold.

  • At the office: Offering kindness to a stressed coworker.

  • In the quiet: Letting His Word remind you, “You are seen. You are loved.”

You don’t need a new title, role, or season to live purposefully. You just need to abide in the One who called you (John 15:5). As you do, His splendour will fill your gaps, and His majesty will remind you that you are part of a grand, eternal story.

Let’s Pray Together
Jesus, thank You that Your presence is my purpose. Help me tune out the noise and tune into Your heart. Rewire my habits, renew my mind, and let Your splendour shine through my ordinary days. Show me today how loved and royal I am in You. Amen.
