Personal Growth: Laying the Foundation for a Transformed Life
Welcome to 2025. This post is a bit late, but since this is the time of year most people let their goals slide, I thought it fitting to talk about this now.
Every start of the new year, is another chance to set goals, make resolutions, and promise ourselves that this year will be different. But let’s be honest—how many times have we said that before?
About 6 years ago, I stopped making new years resolutions. It never worked, and off course, now that I know more about our neurology, I understand why it doesn't work. Our world is changing fast. The way in which we experience things around us are changing. It's time we do things differently. If setting new years resolutions have worked, then how come we haven't met every single goal we've set for ourselves over the past few years. Everything boils down to self-awareness. I you work on self-awareness, aka personal growth, you are unstoppable in my opinion. These are the things I wish I knew when I was younger. I was a bit late to the party, and I know for a fact I'm not the only one. I work with women every day and I know for a fact I'm not the only one. But here we are. We can change things now. Today.
Personal growth isn’t about making more to-do lists or reading self-help books until your brain goes numb. It’s about BEING, becoming—stepping into the version of yourself that God designed, not just the one that’s been shaped by life’s chaos. And take note - I'm not talking about the "best version of you". That's such a lame phrase. God is so big, we will never be able to understand and comprehend what really is "the best version of ourselves". And that's the problem. We're trying to aim for something that's so far beyond our understand that we miss the mark completely. There's a much easier way. Live today and grow today. Today is the only day that matters.
You don’t find your purpose by sitting around waiting for clarity to magically strike. You find it by taking action.
So, let’s get moving.
Reflection: The Foundation for Growth
Before you sprint into the new year with high hopes and color-coded planners, stop and reflect. You cannot grow if you don’t know where you currently are, what you’ve learned, and what’s weighing you down. You've been in the driving seat all the time and you've become a master at driving. It's time you become a better navigator.
Ask yourself:
What lessons did I learn last year?
What areas of my life need pruning to allow new growth?
How can I align my personal growth with God’s purpose for my life?
Most of us skip this step because reflection feels too much like pausing, and we equate pausing with being unproductive. But growth happens in the still moments just as much as in the action. Think of a tree—it doesn’t force itself to grow. It stays rooted, receives nourishment, and lets the process unfold.
Your turn: Take out a journal (or a scrap piece of paper, no one’s judging) and write your reflections. What do you need to let go of? What do you need more of? What is God trying to tell you?
There's not a right or wrong answer. Write everything down. And take note, I say write everything down. Something magical happens in your brain when you put pen to paper
Spiritual Growth Fuels Personal Growth
Here’s where a lot of women get stuck. They chase personal development while neglecting spiritual alignment.
So they:
Try new habits, but lose motivation.
Set goals, but never seem to reach them.
Feel an unshakable "something’s missing" deep down.
That’s because personal growth without spiritual alignment is like trying to power your car with a dead battery. God is the source. If you’re not plugged in, you’re running on fumes.
"But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well." — Matthew 6:33 (NIV).
And we know [with great confidence] that God [who is deeply concerned about us] causes all things to work together [as a plan] for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to His plan and purpose." — Romans 8:28 (AMP)
When you seek God first, growth isn’t forced—it’s a natural byproduct. You don’t have to strive endlessly to become "better" or "worthy"—you already are. What you need is alignment.
Your turn:
Instead of jumping straight into goal-setting, spend time in prayer. Ask God where He wants you to grow.
What areas of your life feel out of sync?
Where is He asking you to step up?
This isn’t about making life harder—it’s about making sure your effort actually produces fruit.
From Reflection to Action: No More Waiting
I’ll say it again: you do not find your purpose by sitting around waiting for clarity to hit you like a magic bolt.
You find it by:
Seeking God daily.
Taking small, consistent steps toward the things that pull at your heart.
Letting go of perfection and moving forward, even when you don’t have all the answers.
Personal growth is not about waiting for the perfect conditions. It’s about doing the work, even when it’s messy, even when you’re uncertain, even when you have no clue what you're doing and yes, even when you are scared.
So, What’s Next?
This year, you’re either growing or staying stuck. There’s no in-between.
You can keep making excuses. Or, you can start where you are, with what you have, walk this journey with me and trust that God will meet you in the action.
Your move.
